PLAYSTATION fans say they “felt stupid” after missing out on an amazing gaming freebie – but you can still play it today.
It’s built into your PlayStation 5 by default, and doesn’t cost a penny.
Astro’s Playroom is installed on your PS5 by default – but is easily overlooked[/caption]The game is called Astro’s Playroom, and you may have already played it.
But many gamers have admitted that they totally ignored it – and now regret the decision.
It’s a free platformer that is supposed to showcase the features packed into your PS5’s DualSense controller.
However, it’s actually a great game in its own right.
Dozens of gamers flocked to Reddit to share their love for the game, posting in a thread about why some people never played it.
One wrote: “I initially didn’t because I just thought it was a cheap demo and would find it boring. Had no idea what I was in for. Glad I did.”
One added: “I thought the same for the longest time. It wasn’t until recently that I platinum’d it, had so much fun!”
Another gamer said: “I didn’t play it initially because I don’t have any interest in platformer type games. I did eventually play it because it was there and I had nothing else…now I’m preordering the new Astro Bot game, so yea…it’s fun as hell.”
One PS5 fan chimed in: “It’s pure joy in game form… It’s perfection.”
And another noted: “I ignored it for the longest time because I thought it was just a little demo. Sure felt stupid once I gave it a try and found out what I’d been missing. But I want morrrre!”
Astro’s Playroom is installed on your PS5 by default, so head into your games library to find it.
It’s also a great time to play it, as PlayStation is preparing to release a full-length sequel named Astro Bot.
The game has high ratings on the official PlayStation Store – and is beloved by PS5 owners[/caption]The follow-up is due out on September 6, 2024 for the PS5 – and will take you across 80 levels.
Gameplay will take place over six galaxies and 50 planets, with players travelling between them on a Dual Speeder spaceship.
This spacecraft is designed to look like PlayStation’s DualSense controller.
The sequel was announced on May 30, 2024 during one of Sony’s State of Play event livestreams.
Here's what you need to know...
There are several different colours that can appear on your PlayStation joypad.
They might show up at the sides of the Touch Bar on the face of the DualSense – or the LED bar, which is just below the PS button.
It’s also important to note that you’ll get different lights when you’re linked to a PS5 – or if you’re connected to another device via Bluetooth, like your Apple iPad or a gaming PC.
Playing on a PS5
Your PS5 controller will normally show a blue light when it’s connected to a PlayStation.
But if a second DualSense joins, their colour will be red.
Green signifies that a third player has been added, and purple is used to show a fourth.
You might also find that the bar turns orange. That means you’re running low on battery.
However, if it’s a pulsing light, that means your PS5 is either charging or entering Rest Mode.
Finally, if the LED bar below your PS button is orange, it means the controller is muted.
This is extremely important: you don’t want to be accidentally chatting in voice lobbies because your microphone is active.
Playing on another device
When you’re connected to something other than a PS5, the lights take on a different meaning.
A blue and white light-pulse means that you’re pairing with a device.
And a solid blue indicates that the pairing is finished.
An orange-and-white light means that your DualSense is paired to another device.
And a pulsing orange light signals that your controller is charging.
Once you’re done with Astro’s Playroom, it may be worth deleting with it from your console.
PlayStation storage space is extremely valuable, and Astro’s Playroom takes up around 11GB.
So if you’ve finished playing it, simply delete it to free up space.
And don’t worry: if you change your mind, you can reinstall it without paying a penny.
