A truck burst into flames directly next to a British Airways plane at Heathrow Airport.
The ground vehicle, which is used to transport the mobile stairs, caught fire this evening.
Huge plumes of thick, black smoke could be seen billowing into the air with flames pouring out the truck.
Pictures from the scene showed the fire raging almost directly under the tail of an A320 aircraft.
Smoke was rising high above several terminal buildings at the UK’s busiest airport.
Footage showed firefighters using water jets to put out the blaze which erupted a matter of yards from the terminal building.
Heathrow Airport said there were no passengers were on board the aircraft at the time.
A spokesperson said the airport fire service rushed to the incident quickly.
A British Airways spokesperson said: ‘Emergency services quickly extinguished a small fire of a third party ground vehicle. No customers were impacted and there were no injuries.’
