Alasdair Gold has said that while Tottenham are big fans of Marc Guehi, a deal for the Crystal Palace star would be very difficult to get over the line this summer.
Guehi has come on leaps and bounds since his switch to Palace three years ago and the 23-year-old has shown his class at the Euros, arguably being England’s best performer across their two matches so far.
The centre-back’s stock is only going to continue to rise if he keeps doing well in Germany and it was reported by The Daily Mail last week that his displays have already turned the heads of several clubs.
The report named Spurs, Man Utd and Liverpool as the three clubs who are keen on securing the 23-year-old’s services, revealing that all three sides are contemplating a move for the Chelsea academy graduate later in the transfer window.
However, Gold has pointed out that Tottenham are not likely to pay big money for a centre-back this summer and that the Eagles would want to let the defender leave.
When asked about Spurs’ interest in Guehi, the journalist said on a Q&A for Football.London: “Spurs love him but he’ll be big money this summer, chased by every top club going and Tottenham aren’t really prioritising a centre-back as an immediate big-money signing this summer unless someone major left, which is not expected at this point.
“Also, I’d be stunned if Palace let him go on top of Olise and Eze with their release clauses.”

Guehi might have been an option for Tottenham back in January before they signed Radu Dragusin but as Gold points out, it would make little sense for Spurs to now splurge big on another centre-back.
Ange Postecoglou’s men would likely want to sign a relatively low-cost and versatile defender, who can operate across the backline.
