PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Starting Monday, some Portland police officers will be wearing body cameras as part of a program that was announced last year.
In August 2023, PPB tested a two-month pilot program for the cameras, following which the city council approved a $2.5 million contract for a full-scale program.
The first step in the rollout begins Monday as all Central Precinct officers will be the first to wear the cameras.
Before officers wore the cameras, they underwent a training program according to PPB's camera rollout schedule.
The cameras are expected to be worn by officers in the other precincts in July and August.
