PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Rescuers carried an injured hiker more than 2 miles up the Saddle Mountain Trail Saturday after weather prevented a US Coast Guard helicopter from landing.
The rescue effort began around 1:45 p.m. when crews from Cannon Beach, Hamlet, Gearhart and Medix were sent to help the hiker. The rescue crews found and stabilized the hiker, then called for the helicopter, officials with Cannon Beach RFPD said on their Facebook page.
But the mountain was covered by a thick layer of fog that blew in, so crews had to carry the hiker 2.2 miles in a basket. The hike took 5 hours, and officials said the hiker was then taken to a hospital for treatment.
No information about the hiker is available -- name, age, condition or how the injury happened.
