The Taliban’s Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Endowments announced that the process of Afghan pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia has begun.
Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesperson of the ministry, stated in a message on his social media platform X that 346 pilgrims arrived in Kabul early on Saturday morning in the first flight.
According to Fetrat, this year, 30,000 pilgrims from Afghanistan participated in the Hajj ceremonies.
The Ministry emphasized that the transfer of Afghan pilgrims was coordinated with Ariana and Kam Air Airlines, with 94 flights departing from Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, and Kandahar airports.
Meanwhile, the intense heat in Saudi Arabia claimed the lives of over a thousand pilgrims during this year’s ceremonies.
The process of transferring Afghan pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj began on June 20 and is expected to be completed with their return within the next 25 days.
According to the ministry’s announcement, twelve Afghan pilgrims have passed away during this year’s Hajj ceremonies in Saudi Arabia. The reasons for their deaths have not been disclosed so far.
Additionally, the Ministry of Guidance, Hajj, and Endowments had previously stated that the cost of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage per person is $3,865 US dollars, equivalent to 277,000 Afghanis.
