A MUM who was sick of cleaning up after her two boys decided to teach them a life lesson.
Katie Johnson, took to social media, to share the punishment which left people seriously divided.
In the clip the mum showed the mess her kids had left and sick of cleaning up after them constantly, she took drastic measures.
She wrote: “Watch me as I empty my sons’ bedroom due to their disgusting behaviour.”
Katie went on to take all of their belongings out of the room of her two sons’ bedroom as she revealed they didn’t appreciate them and weren’t looking after their belongings.
She first started by stripping their beds and removing their cuddly toys.
Katie revealed that she didn’t take away their bedding, only changed it.
TVs, Playstations and any other type of toy was chucked out of the room as well.
“I’m going for prison cell vibes,” she added.
“They came home from school to a box of books on the floor. YouTube is also banned forever.”
In the end of the clip, their items were packed into rubbish bags and moved out of the room.
“Gentle parenting who?” she captioned the post.
The clip posted to her TikTok account @katiejohnston07 has gone viral with over 1 million views and 38 likes.
People quickly took to comments to share their thoughts on the mum’s punishment.
One person wrote: “Am I the only one that thinks taking bedding and teddy’s is too far.”
Another commented: “Curious but what is the lesson they’re learning from this?”
There are four recognised styles of parenting explained below:
Authoritarian Parenting
What some might describe as ‘regimental’ or ‘strict parenting.
Parents with this style focus on strict rules, obedience, and discipline.
Authoritarian parents take over the decision-making power, rarely giving children any input in the matter.
When it comes to rules, you believe it’s “my way or the highway.”
Permissive Parenting
Often referred to as ‘soft parenting’ or ‘yes mums/dads’.
Permissive parents are lenient, only stepping in when there’s a serious problem.
They’re quite forgiving and they adopt an attitude of “kids will be kids.”
Oftentimes they act more like friends than authoritative figures.
Authoritative Parenting
Authoritative parents provide their children with rules and boundaries, but they also give them the freedom to make decisions.
With an authoritative parenting style, parents validate their children’s feelings while also making it clear that the adults are ultimately in charge.
They use positive reinforcement techniques, like praise and reward systems, as opposed to harsh punishments.
Neglectful or Uninvolved Parenting
Essentially, neglectful parents ignore their children, who receive little guidance, nurturing, and parental attention.
They don’t set rules or expectations, and they tend to have minimal knowledge about what their children are doing.
Uninvolved parents expect children to raise themselves. They don’t devote much time or energy to meeting children’s basic needs.
Uninvolved parents may be neglectful but it’s not always intentional. A parent with mental health issues or substance abuse problems, for example, may not be able to care for a child’s physical or emotional needs consistently.
“To appreciate everything they have as they take it for granted,” replied Katie.
“My mum threw my teddies away and I’m still traumatised at 18, that’s too far that,” penned a third.
Meanwhile, some parents were on board with the method, a fourth said: “I’m unsure why people are coming for mum?? My kids are spoilt and ungrateful most of the time. This is my next step if it carries on! Good on you mum!!”
“You can tell everyone complaining in the comments has never had this happen to them this happened to me before sometimes the only way to make them clean up after themselves,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “I can feel the rage radiating from you! You needed this mama cleanse that soul!!”
