Simultaneously with June 20th, which marks World Refugee Day, António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, states that the world must uphold the human rights of refugees.
António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Thursday, June 20, on the occasion of World Refugee Day, continues to urge efforts to end wars globally so that refugees can safely return to their home countries.
World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honor refugees worldwide.
However, this day comes amidst the backdrop of Afghanistan, where over the past three years, a significant number of its citizens have sought refuge in other countries, facing an uncertain future.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper writes in an article on World Refugee Day that the forced expulsion of Afghan refugees is not a solution.
The article highlights concerns raised since October of last year about Pakistan’s expulsion of refugees.
The World Food Programme, in a statement on World Refugee Day, has stated that over half a million Afghan refugees have been expelled from Pakistan in the past eight months, leaving them in dire situations upon their return to Afghanistan, with many becoming displaced for the second time.
This comes amid a dire humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, with over 23 million people needing humanitarian aid.
