LIAM Cameron is a former Commonwealth middleweight champ who has been through the wars both inside and outside of the ring.
He’s back in action in June 2024 against Lyndon ‘King’ Arthur — here we look at the record and career of the fighter nicknamed ‘Cannonball’.
Liam Cameron is a boxer from Sheffield who was born on October 21, 1990 — making him 33 years old at the time of writing.
His first pro fight was a six-round points victory over Matt Scriven at Sheffield City Hall on October 24, 2009.
After winning nine consecutive fights, his first loss came at the hands of a tight points decision against Erick Ochieng, this time at Hillsborough Leisure Centre in his hometown on May 28, 2011.
He held the Commonwealth middleweight belt from 2017 to 2018 and challenged for the super-middleweight version twice in 2015 and 2016, losing both by unanimous decision.
But in a massive blow to his career, the Sheffield fighter was handed a harsh four-year British boxing ban in 2018 when a metabolite of cocaine was found in his system.
In 2020, his step-daughter Tiegan was killed in a traffic incident — just two days before her 21st birthday.
Struggling to cope, Liam battled addiction and survived an attempt on his own life.
In 2023, he returned to boxing and started a four-fight win streak.
He even completed a Sheffield to Manchester round-trip marathon to raise money for a tribute to Tiegan, as well as proving his fitness to return to the ring.
His next fight against 33-year-old Mancunian Lyndon Arthur on Friday, June 21.
Speaking about his money-raising marathon, Liam told SunSport: “It was a crazy idea really, me and my pal Hassan just wanted to see if we could do it.
“We wanted to hit that ‘Welcome to Manchester’ sign and get back.
“Then we decided to make it more than a challenge and used it to raise £1,300 for a bench for Tiegan.
“It took the best part of 24hrs, with just a rucksack full of flapjacks and the last 10 miles were hell.
“I’ve been through some dark times, tough tests, but those last few miles were something else.
“Me and Hassan were both crying, confused, in agony. It ended up like a therapy session.

“But we did it, somehow, and being able to do that, physically and mentally, showed me a boxing comeback would be alright.”
Liam has always protested his innocence but wisely has no desire to rock the boat with the British Boxing Board of Control after regaining his licence.
Boxing has welcomed him back to the light-heavyweight division, with Eddie Hearn hosting him on a Matchroom show at Sheffield Arena in March, and next up he’s headlining on terrestrial TV.
He explained: “At the time I did feel very alone and I felt like some people could have helped me a bit more, but I understand the sport and that it’s a business.
“Since my comeback, I do feel like all the people that know about my story are willing me to win.
“I am the underdog, the outsider, the away fighter, but — especially in boxing — people love that guy and they want him to win.
“I first ever loved boxing because of the Rocky films and I think people always love a comeback fairytale story more than an undefeated success.
“I feel a bit sorry for Lyndon Arthur, he’s the Manchester lad on a home show in Bolton but I feel like I’ve got all of the backing.”
Liam’s boxing record is 23-5-0.
This means he has fought 28 bouts, winning 23, losing five and drawing none.
He has won 10 of his fights by knockout, giving him a KO percentage of 43.5.
Lyndon returns to the ring on Friday, June 21, 2024, as he takes on Liam Cameron.
The bout will be contested at light-heavyweight.
Arthur is looking to get back into world title contention, so he’s not going to be eager to let his hopes slip at the hands of underdog Liam.
The bout will be held at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, home Bolton Wanderers, with ring walks for the main event expected to commence at around 10.30pm BST.
Arthur vs. Cameron will be shown live on Channel 5 and My5 — the channel’s streaming service — in the UK.
