A police officer working on prime minister Rishi Sunak’s protection team has been arrested over alleged bets made relating to the timing of the General Election.
The Gambling Commission told the Metropolitan Police that it was investigating one of its police constables from the Royalty and Specialist Protection Command last Friday.
The force has now confirmed that the officer was arrested on Monday on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
He’s since been bailed, and the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
The Gambling Commission is leading the investigation into the alleged betting offences.
Meanwhile, new polling suggested Mr Sunak could make history by becoming the first prime minister to lose his seat in a general election.
