Did you see there’s a new mysterious object? Much like some of the mysterious objects that have come before, no one knows where it comes from or what it means or why it’s in the middle of the Nevada desert. That’s the mystery.
On Monday, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department tweeted out a photo of a mirrored monolith near Gass Peak, about 40 miles outside the city. According to the BBC, the structure was spotted over the weekend during a search-and-rescue mission. “HOW did it get up there,” LVMPD asked on Instagram. What a fabulous question.
MYSTERIOUS MONOLITH!

We see a lot of weird things when people go hiking like not being prepared for the weather, not bringing enough water... but check this out!

The first and most obvious answer is aliens. They’re letting us know that they’ve found us, and these monoliths are basically their way of remembering where they’ve been already. Back in 2020, a similar-looking monolith appeared in the Utah desert and caused a ton of speculation before mysteriously disappearing. Perhaps our extraterrestrial friends prefer a dry heat?
The boring answer is that this is some kind of art project. It’s a commentary about … I don’t know, how we’re all searching for deeper meaning? The juxtaposition of the natural with the man-made? How cool it looks when you put a mirror in the desert because it kind of camouflages itself? Whatever. If it is art, no one has come forward as the artist. No one claimed the Utah monolith four years ago, and no one has claimed this recent one. An artist who doesn’t want the attention? Now I’ve heard it all. This is definitely the work of some little green guys.
