No one recognized a floral purse at the thrift store but I knew what I’d found – it was only $3 but is worth thousands
A FASHIONISTA has revealed they bought a purse from an Italian luxury designer for just $3 at a local thrift store.
They said no one noticed the value of the stylish item despite the brand name being on the outside.
They shared a photo of the item on Reddit’s Thrift Store Hauls forum.
DESIGNER DEAL
The floral purse looked in good condition with its silver hardware shining and no visible marks.
“Gucci bag for $3,” they said writing under the handle Otherwise-Shallot-53.
“This was just hanging with the regular bags and not in the glass case because no one recognized the (very heavy) hardware or saw the word Gucci on the outside (to be fair it is written pretty small).
“Anyway, I have probably peaked with my thrift shopping.”
A similar pre-loved Gucci bag is listed for $1,855.38 on Vestiaire Collective.
On Poshmark, a Gucci Floral Hobo Bag is being sold for $1,299 and a Gucci flower tote is $1,800.
The Redditor responded to concerns that their thrift store purchase was too good to be true by saying they’re “pretty good” at recognizing fakes.
“I wouldn’t feel comfortable with anything counterfeit,” they said.
“The thrift store I got it from is in a very fancy neighborhood.
“There are usually quite a few designer bags (have found a couple LV, Prada, etc.) but they are supposed to be in a glass case for all the expensive stuff.
“The hardware on this thing alone should have tipped someone off that it was $$$ but lucky for me it did not.”

Thousands of people up-voted the Redditor’s post and gushed about the style of the bag.
“I am so jealous rn this is a gorgeous Tom Ford era limited production,” one person wrote.
“So friggin stunning, what a find! lol my local thrift store would lock this behind a glass cabinet and mark it near full retail price lmaooo,” another said.
How to spot a fake Gucci bag
According to Real Authentication, genuine Gucci accessories have several key identifiers:
- A serial number on the interior
- High-quality leather
- Perfect stitching
- Hardware stamped with the Gucci logo
- Authenticity card
“Gorgeous! I would have brought it even if it was no-name,” a third chimed in.
“That is gloriously beautiful!!!” another added.
A member of the Reddit forum previously shared that they found a similar purse in white for $7.99.
“My husband says I’m a thrift witch – I went in today to look for Perler beads and came out with a $600 Gucci handbag,” they said under the handle AmbergrisAndEggs.
An identical leather trim bag was sold by the pre-loved online boutique The Luxury Closet for $831.
