Man, 24, savaged by Pitbull that ‘belonged to his family’

A man has suffered serious injuries after an incident involving a dog in South Wales.

Emergency services, including armed police, were called to Blair Way, Aberavon near St Joseph’s Junior School around 7am this morning over reports a 24-year-old was injured.

A dog, which is believed to be a pitbull or Staffordshire Terrier cross, has been sedated.

A neighbour told the BBC: ‘It was a pitbull-type dog they rescued from a drug house about seven months ago.

‘I saw seven or eight police cars at least here. There were armed police here searching for the dog.’

They added they saw bloodstains on fences and a gate, saying: ‘I thought it might be the dog’s blood but the boy’s brother arrived and told me it was the boy’s. He’s in a bad way.’

A spokesman for South Wales Constabulary added: ‘The dog has been sedated and removed from the scene by police dog units.’

The public have been told avoid the area as emergency services remain at the scene.

An air ambulance transported the 24-year-old to hospital.

Their condition is not yet known.

Two weeks ago an XL Bully owner was killed by her own pets after she cme home from celebrating her birthday.

Nicole Morey, 23, was pronounced dead at her home in the Fedamore area of Limerick, Ireland on June 4.

She had been celebrating her birthday with family and friends and had just opened her front door when the dog set upon her.

Another dog, believed to be a Staffordshire Terrier, also joined in the attack.
