Report: Potential blow for Spurs as Chelsea reconsider Gallagher stance

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are open to the possibility of offering Tottenham target Conor Gallagher a new contract if he does not leave the club this summer.

The report backs up what we have heard from various sources over the past few weeks by stating that Spurs hold a keen interest in Gallagher while Aston Villa have already held talks over a deal for the midfielder.

However, it is pointed out that the preference of the 24-year-old, who has just a year left on his contract, is to remain at his boyhood club.

While Chelsea would be willing to sell the England international for £50m, they are said to be aware of the possibility that Gallagher could refuse a transfer and might reconsider their stance if that happens.

Chelsea could still offer Gallagher a new contract

It is revealed the Blues would be prepared to open a dialogue with the midfielder’s entourage over a new long-term contract.

However, the publication explains that any contract talks would have to wait until after the Euros, with the player currently focused on doing well for England at the tournament.

That would imply that Gallagher is also not interested in securing any potential transfer until after the Euros too.

I would not be surprised if we now see Spurs shift their attention to Morgan Gibbs-White over the next week or two.

If I was Gallagher and I genuinely wanted to stay at Chelsea, I would refuse to leave this summer. They would likely be so scared of losing him on a free that they would offer him a new deal.
