Miley Cyrus Reveals How Her Estranged Father Billy Ray Cyrus Has Impacted Her Life & Success

Miley Cyrus is speaking out about her father Billy Ray Cyrus in a new interview.

The 31-year-old Grammy award-winning entertainer and her 62-year-old musician dad have had a strained relationship since his split from ex-wife Tish Cyrus, with a divide in the family.

While appearing on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, Miley opened up about how Billy Ray has affected her life and her success over the years.

“He has a relationship and a foot on the ground to the real and to nature and he always did, even when he was super famous,” she said on the Netflix series. “I’m grateful for being able to watch him ahead of me. He’s almost given me this map. And there’s a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both.”

She noted as well, “I also inherited the narcissism from my father.”

While speaking of how her parents have contributed to her success, Miley says their impacts are “different” and “they can’t be weighed on the same scale, actually.”

“Without my dad, I know — I mean, not just literally I wouldn’t be sitting in this chair, I wouldn’t exist — but I would not, who I am as a person, it wouldn’t exist. Because my dad, as a creative and as an artist in the way that his brain works, has always made me feel safer in my own mind because we’re very similar in our ideas,” Miley continued. “So I think a lot of his perspective on reality and on life, I’ve inherited from him, more so than the way that I was raised — which really, my mom raised me.”

“Honestly, my mom is my hero,” she added of her mom.

After winning the Grammy for Record of the Year earlier this year, Miley left Billy Ray out of her acceptance speech.

More recently, Billy Ray seemed to reach out to Miley on social media with a post about her on his Instagram.
