Marion County Dog Services is offering a 75% discount on adoption fees for rescue dogs over 6 months and 25 pounds, including spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, and other basic supplies, during a shelter walk-through on June 8.
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – If you walk through the Marion County shelter this Saturday, you could adopt a rescue dog at a big discount from the regular price.
Marion County Dog Services will host a shelter walk-through from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 8 for new owners to choose a canine companion for only $25. Adoption fees typically range between $100-$350.
The deal applies to all dogs over 6 months and 25 pounds, and fees include the cost of spay/neuter, microchip, current vaccinations, flea/tick treatment, and deworming. It also includes a gift bag of treats, toys and other basic supplies.
Marion County residents who adopt the dogs will receive a one-year license. Available dogs can be seen on the shelter's website.
Saturday’s adoption deal kicks off what will be regular walk-through hours at the shelter from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is the first time the shelter has offered walk-throughs since the beginning of the 2020 pandemic.
“Implementing regular walk-though hours earlier this year has helped encourage regular walk-through traffic in the kennels,” shelter director Lauren Thielke said. “Our hope is that adding walk-through hours on Saturdays will encourage even more people to visit and adopt dogs. Even if you’re not ready to adopt, visiting the shelter during our walk-through hours is a great way to learn more about our dogs and volunteer opportunities.”
