BROADALBIN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Rock band Foreigner will be joined by some young, regional musical talent for their upcoming July 30 performance at Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The Broadalbin-Perth Central School District announced that the Broadalbin-Perth Senior High School (BPHS) chorus has been invited to join the band on stage after submitting a video audition earlier this year.
After their concert with Styx and John Waite was first announced back in December, Foreigner launched a contest calling for local ensembles to submit auditions to sing with them. BPHS sent in a recording of them singing Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is," and the chorus was ultimately chosen from among many schools that had applied throughout the greater Capital Region.
"I was shocked, but not shocked, because these kids are so committed. They're so involved in the program now that they've gotten to such a great level, and I really had no doubts that they'd get it," said BPHS music teacher Alex Hitrick. "I can't wait for them to sing in front of thousands of people."
A total of 25 student performers will have the chance to join Foreigner on stage. Chorus students in good academic standing have been invited to audition for a spot and represent their school at the concert.
The chosen students will perform the very song they auditioned with alongside the iconic rock group. Tickets to the Foreigner and Styx concert at SPAC can be purchased online through the Live Nation website.
