It’s set to be a busy summer for players around Europe, with Euro 2024 on the horizon and transfer moves for many in the offing. But, here are the pre-season friendlies Tottenham Hotspur have lined up among the chaos.
Tottenham ended the Premier League season in style with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sheffield United, a result that was enough to secure fifth place in the league and confirm the Lilywhites’ involvement in the Europa League next term.
Now, many Spurs players will be thinking about Euro 2024 and leading their country to glory, while others will be pondering whether their future even lies in North London or whether they will be moved on this summer.
Meanwhile, much has been said about Tottenham’s post-season friendly against Newcastle United, which was played in Melbourne on Wednesday. With a full squad of players travelling to Australia just hours after the end of the league season, some fans and pundits have levelled criticism at the idea.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw, with goals from James Maddison and Alexander Isak, before the Magpies won on penalties.
Here are the remaining fixtures for Tottenham in pre-season, though there could be more games added in due course.
July 27: Tottenham vs Vissel Kobe – National Stadium, Tokyo
August 3: Tottenham vs Bayern Munich – Seoul World Cup Stadium, South Korea
August 10: Tottenham vs Bayern Munich – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, kick-off 5.30 pm
So, we will see Kane take on Tottenham twice within the space of a week. The latter tie will see the England captain return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a Bayern Munich player for the first time since leaving Spurs last summer.
Spurs Web Opinion
I would have liked to see a bit more variety in the fixture list for pre-season, and playing Bayern Munich twice like that just feels weird. But, as long as preparation goes well and the players come out of the summer feeling sharp, it doesn’t really matter who we play.
