A MECHANIC has revealed a way to make your car’s air con “twice as cold” this summer and save hundreds.
Scotty Kilmer, who has over 50 years of motors experience, shared a cheap and easy hack to stay cool without “blowing up the system”.

Your air conditioning system works by using refrigerant gas to absorb the heat from the air sucked into the car.
Over time, though, the refrigerant is depleted and needs to be replaced – this is often called “regassing”.
Scotty said: “If your car’s AC isn’t blowing cold…you can add refrigerant.”
All you have to do is buy a can of refrigerant, pop the bonnet and connect the nozzle to the side port of your air compressor.
The motors whizz claimed that topping up the gas regularly will keep your air “twice as cold”.
Cans of refrigerant can be found online for under £20, but Scotty recommended forking out a bit to get one with a gauge on the nozzle.
He explained: “If you use a can without a gauge, you can easily over-pressurise the system and cause it to explode.
“The more expensive can has a gauge.
“As long as you keep it in the green, you can keep going.
“If it starts heading toward the red, you stop adding refrigerant.
“With the cheaper can, it’s total guesswork.”
While these more expensive cans cost about £40 on Amazon, it’s still much cheaper than the £100 or £200 you might be charged at a garage.
Likewise, it’s nothing compared to the expense of replacing parts of your air con system damaged by over-pressuring, which can run into the thousands.
It comes after another expert recommended a £1.27 gadget that can help you avoid a £1,000 fine.
Meanwhile, drivers were told how to check for Asian hornets in their cars amid warnings this summer.
Scotty urged Brits to pay a little bit more for a can with a gauge or risk ‘blowing the system up’[/caption]
