Afghanistan University entrance exam date announced amid women’s ban
The National Examination Committee of Afghanistan announced the schedule for the nationwide Konkur exam during a press conference in Kabul on Thursday, May 23.
According to the committee’s plan, the Konkur nationwide exam for the solar year 1403 will be held in five stages, with the first stage scheduled for June 7th.
In the first stage of this exam, applicants from 16 provinces will take the exam on June 7th, while the second stage, covering Kabul and its districts, is planned for June 22 and 23.
In the third stage, candidates from 10 provinces will take the exam, scheduled for June 27 and 28.
In the fourth stage, applicants from 7 provinces will take the exam, scheduled for July, 3, 4 and 5th. Additionally, a supplementary exam for students who have studied abroad or failed to participate in previous stages will be conducted in the fifth stage.
The press conference of the National Examination Committee is taking place in Kabul. As of now, no information has been provided regarding the participation of girls in the exam.
Since the Taliban assumed power, they have enforced a ban preventing girls from attending school beyond the sixth grade. Consequently, girls and women are prohibited from participating in university exams.
This marks the third consecutive year that they have been deprived of the opportunity to take part in university and Konkur exams, despite promises from Taliban officials to lift the ban.
The Taliban’s promise to permit girls to attend university exams has remained unfulfilled for the third consecutive year despite assurances from Taliban officials, girls and women continue to be excluded from participating in the exams, perpetuating their denial of educational opportunities.
