The Minnesota Timberwolves fell in Game 1 of the 2024 Western conference finals on Wednesday, and this waved-off bucket from Karl-Anthony Towns played a huge role in the outcome.
Late into the fourth quarter, Towns went for a 3-point attempt by one of his teammates under the rim to ensure it went in for two points and lost the score completely when the officials ruled it was offensive basket interference.
That call happens when the player goes for the ball while it’s in the imagined cylinder going vertical from the court to the rim.
Instead of getting the game tied at 104 with minutes to go, the Dallas Mavericks maintained their two-point lead down the stretch and ultimately won 108-105.
This was an incredibly costly non-basket for the Timberwolves, who now are down a game in the series and have just burned one of their home games on the loss.
As you could imagine, NBA fans hated seeing such an exciting NBA playoff game get so affected by a call by the officials.
