Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Bayern Munich casually discussed a move for Emerson Royal in January but a right-back is no longer a priority position for the German club this summer.
It seems quite clear that Emerson has played his final competitive game for Spurs, with reports over the past few weeks suggesting that the Brazilian will be one of a number of players sold by Tottenham this summer as part of their summer rebuild (Fabrizio Romano – GiveMeSport).
Several Italian outlets have reported this month that AC Milan are keen on adding a right-back to their squad and have identified the Spurs star as a priority target ahead of the summer (Calciomercato).
Last week, The Sun’s Tom Barclay suggested that Bayern were also monitoring the former Real Betis star’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window.
Plettenberg has now given an update on Bayern’s pursuit of Emerson, confirming that the Bundesliga giants discussed a move for the Tottenham man in January.
However, the journalist explained that while the Bavarian club were in need of a right-back at the time, they no longer require reinforcements in that position.
As a result, Emerson ‘is not a hot topic of interest’ at the Allianz Arena at the moment.
Plettenberg said: ‘Rumors about Emerson Royal and FC Bayern: There was some casual discussion about him in January when Bayern was looking for a right-back. That’s all. Currently, the 25 y/o from Tottenham is not a hot topic of interest at Bayern, and there’s no need for a player in that position right now.’

I can see a player of Emerson’s attributes thriving in Serie A as he will get more time on the ball in Italy. I expect a few Italian sides to join AC Milan in the race for the Brazilian over the coming weeks.
