A GARDENING guru has revealed their tried and true method to revitalize a patchy lawn.
It’s so easy for anyone to do the gardening hack, and it’s perfect for lawncare beginners.
PJ (@girlzlawn) shares lawncare-related tips and provides inspiration for achieving a nicer lawn.
In an Instagram Reel, she shared her plan to fix an unhealthy-looking grassy area with only four steps.
She provided a firsthand example in the video of what it looks like and demonstrated how it can be done.
“So if your grass looks like this, how exactly do you start repairing it? Let me show you,” she said.
PJ provided detailed step-by-step instructions to revive the grass and bring in new life.
First, she said to break up the soil with a tiller or cultivator.
According to Rental Ranch, the differences between the two tools is very slight.
“Garden tillers are used to break up hard ground and prepare the garden bed for planting,” they explained.
A cultivator has “smaller tines and a less powerful motor than a tiller,” so it’s normally not used for ground breaking.
Then, while doing this, remove any debris or rocks that you come across, which can inhibit the process.
Also, if you come across compaction, she said you can aerate those areas.
Compaction is when the soil particles are compressed and reduce the pore space between them.
This makes the soil too dense and prevents roots from getting to the air, water, and nutrients they need, according to Johnathan Green.
Next, she recommended laying down grass seeds over the space.
Lastly, she said to “lightly till the area again for good seed-to-soil contact.”
“Those are some really easy and simple steps that you can start off with,” she said.
However, she did add that there may be a little bit more work to do “down the road to get everything growing in properly.”
But the results will be worth it.
“Start there and assess more later,” she added.
Tony Williams is the Estate Manager at Mount Ephraim Country House & Gardens in the UK.
He revealed to The U.S. Sun the best organic remedies for getting rid of weeds.
Two ingredient mix: “Mix four liters of vinegar, 250 grams of salt, and a tablespoon of soap for a potent weed killer,” he said.
Lemon juice: “Whether freshly squeezed or from a bottle, lemon juice is a simple, natural herbicide,” he revealed.
Boiling water: “Pouring boiling water on weeds can kill them instantly without harming nearby plants,” he said.
Diluted rubbing alcohol: “Spray this solution on weeds to induce water loss and effectively kill them,” he said.
Hand-picking: “Focus on removing them early, especially notorious ones like dandelions, to prevent seeds from scattering,” he said.
Viewers were excited to try it and others offered additional advice
“Let’s not forget to water a few times every day,” one said.
“Excellent, love it!” another added
“Thanks for the tip,” someone else commented.
