Good morning, Mets fans!
Per Tisha Thompson of ESPN, former Angels infielder David Fletcher bet on sports with the same bookmaker that Ippei Mizuhara, Shohei Ohtani‘s former interpreter, used. Fletcher, who is currently in the Braves organization, was a teammate of Ohtani’s for several years, and per Thompson, was one of Ohtani’s best friends in the game. It’s a pretty significant development, even if Ohtani hasn’t been implicated of anything, that two of the closest people to him have been found to bet illegally on sports.
Mizhuara is expected to plead guilty and receive a multi-year prison sentence for his role in mishandling Ohtani’s funds and using them to bet on sports. This news with Fletcher is the latest development and it will be interesting to see how the league handles it.
The Mets were defeated by the Marlins 8-0 on Friday. It was a disappointing loss all around, as Christian Scott was hit hard and the Mets’ offense was, once again, absent. The Mets are now 20-24.
