161-game Arsenal star takes to social media to announce departure after eight years
Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny has posted a video on his social media channels to announce that he will be leaving the North London club after eight years.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the Gunners will not be renewing his deal as the Egyptian has not had a big role at the club for several years.
The midfielder joined Arsenal in 2016 from Basel and has gone on the play 161 times for the London club, winning the FA Cup and two Community Shields in that timeframe.
Elneny took to social media on Friday to announce his departure from the Premier League giants and has told the Arsenal fans that he will say goodbye on Sunday, which will hopefully be amid title-winning celebrations.
“Gunners. I am here today to send you a message to say goodbye and thank you for everything you have done for me. The love, support, and kindness; I am going to miss you so much and you will be in my heart forever,” the Egyptian star said via his X account.
“I want to say how much I love you and how much you mean to me and I will never forget the way you supported me. I am going to see you on Sunday at Emirates Stadium to say goodbye, face to face. See you, Gunners.”

Elneny is a player that represents the last era at Arsenal, one the North London club has moved on from. Under Mikel Arteta’s leadership, the Gunners could win their first Premier League title in 20 years on Sunday but even if they fall short, the future is very bright at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal’s squad is a good mix of young and experienced players, who have grown together over the last three seasons. The North London club could be the ones to take over once Pep Guardiola moves on from Man City as it is very hard to shift the Manchester club from their perch at present.
