Team News: Postecoglou reveals South American is doubtful for Sheffield United match
Ange Postecoglou has provided a team news update ahead of Sunday’s match against Sheffield United during this afternoon’s press conference at Hotspur Way.
Spurs could have kept their slim homes of a Champions League spot alive with a win against Manchester City but are now instead battling for fifth and a Europa League place following a 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The team that finishes fifth in the Premier League is guaranteed a place in the competition and as it stands that will be Postecoglou’s side.
Spurs are currently fifth with 63 points but sixth-placed Chelsea are only three points back and have a better goal difference going into Sunday.
That means if Tottenham were to lose their last match against Sheffield United and Chelsea beat Bournemouth, Mauricio Pocheetino’s team would instead claim the guaranteed Europa League place and Spurs would have to hope for Man City to beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final for the other space in the competition.

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs first-team squadahead of the clash against Chris Wilder’s side.
Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies, Destiny Udogie, Ryan Sessegnon, Fraser Forster and Manor Solomon all remain sidelined through injury.
Postecoglou told reporters that Giovani Lo Celso is the only fresh injury concern picked up a knock to his knee in Tuesday’s defeat to Manchester City and will be assessed in tomorrow’s training.
He told the official Spurs site: “The only one that’s a bit of a doubt is Gio Lo Celso.
“He got a knock on his knee, he didn’t train today but we’ll see intraining tomorrow.
“(There’s) A few sore bodies but nothing that will make any changes to the personnel from the other night so it’ll likely be a similar squad for Sunday’s game.”
