Bond total exceeds $7 million for Ohio man charged in lethal Benadryl murder of 3-year-old
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- A man who recently received a $2 million bond in Franklin County Municipal Court got another multi-million dollar bond in Common Pleas Court for his alleged role in the death of a three-year-old child.
Randy Mollett, 35, received a $3 million bond on Monday on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter, and three counts of endangering children. Earlier this month, Mollett received $4 million in total bond amounts in Municipal Court, bringing his overall bond amount in both Franklin County courts to more than $7 million.
A criminal complaint report stated that Mollett called 911 at 6:18 p.m. on April 13 to report a juvenile had stopped breathing at his home on London-Groveport Road near Grove City. Medics took the child to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
The toxicology report revealed that the child had ingested a lethal dosage of Diphenhydramine, which is commonly referred to as Benadryl. Parents told police that their child was in Mollett’s custody for a period of three days and that they did not authorize him to give the child Benadryl. Mollett admitted to police he gave the medicine to the child.
Mollett was arrested on similar charges in 2008 and pleaded guilty to one count of endangering children and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
