FOREIGN bureaucrats should be banned from forcing freedom-loving Brits into more lockdowns, Nigel Farage demanded today.
The ex-Brexit Party chief warned the World Health Organisation must urgently reform so it is prevented from imposing major restrictions on sovereign countries.
A new treaty due to be signed this month could give the UN agency body sweeping powers to enforce social isolation measures on member states such as the UK.
Mr Farage argued Britain should leave the WHO unless a major change is enforced.
He told The Sun: “Put simply, this is a very dangerous organisation.
“Now they want Britain and other countries to sign up to their ‘Lockdown Treaty’, which would give them the power to lock us down in any future pandemic — without the consent of the British people.”
The WHO was established to monitor and coordinate global responses to issues including genetically modified foods, climate change and tobacco use.
But critics have slammed the agency in recent years for constantly trying to expand its powers and remit.
Mr Farage argued the WHO must return to its roots – focusing on information sharing and guidance over taking control away from countries and citizens.
The Honorary President of Reform UK also called for the organisation to slash costs by 50 per cent through cutting spending on luxury travel and thousands of staff.
He said: “The World Health Organisation is like the EU.
“The bureaucrats who run it have never been elected, waste billions of our money and want control over our lives.
“If Sunak and Cameron choose to give away sovereignty over our health, then we may well need to leave the WHO altogether.”
