Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Thursday, May 10, 2024
Box Score · Clippers improve to 15-20
The Columbus Clippers were the only Cleveland Guardians affiliate to win today. Juan Brito went 3-5, which is good to see. I’m hoping he can get it going here soon. Daniel Schneeman went 1-5 with a 2 RBI single in the top of the 8th. Johnathan Rodriguez stays hot with a 2-4 performance with one walk. He’s up to hitting .291 with an .872 OPS. Jose Tena continues his hot streak, going 2-5 and has his average up to .254 on the season after a really rough start. The hero of the game was Jhonkensy Noel, though. He went 1-5 with three strikeouts, but he hit the go ahead three run home run in the top of the 10th inning that wound up winning the game for the Clippers.
Overall a nice day for the Columbus pitching staff, lead by Juan Zapata who came in relief to throw three shutout innings, giving up only one hit. Mason Hickman picked up the save in the 10th inning with a pair of strikeouts, giving up just one hit.
#Guardians 22yr old (INF/OF) prospect Jhonkensy Noel golfs out a game winning 3-run HR in the top of the 10th inning for Columbus in their 6-to-4 win over Iowa. The HR was Noel's 7th of the season and 5th over his last 11 games.#ForTheLand pic.twitter.com/UKV6kmpbJX

Box Score · RubberDucks fall to 19-11
It was a rough day for the RubberDucks lineup. Kahlil Watson went 1-4 with two strikeouts, Joe Naranjo went 2-4, Dayan Frias also had a hit, but that was it. They combined for four hits and eleven strikeouts to just three walks. While it wasn’t a great day for him today, I’ve been really impressed with Kahlil Watson this season. His numbers aren’t eye popping, but I’ve generally enjoyed watching his at bats, and he definitely hits the ball hard consistently. He is a super interesting prospect who I think we need to have some patience with,
On the other side, despite struggling with control, Ryan Webb was still very effective today. He threw six innings, striking out six, walking five and giving up two runs, only one earned. His ERA is down to 2.97 on the season, and I could definitely see him being promoted to Columbus by the All-Star break. Erik Sabrowski pitched great in relief, throwing two innings, striking out three, walking one, and didn’t give up a single hit.
Another strong outing tonight for #Guardians LHP prospect Ryan Webb as he allowed one earned run striking out five over 6.0 innings of work at Bowie.

Box Score · Hillcats fall to 17-13
Another tough day offensively for a Guardians affiliate, that seemed to be the theme of today. Ralpy Velazquez went 1-4 with three strikeouts, Angel Genao went 0-4 with two strikeouts. Wuilfredo Antunez was the lone hillcat with multiple hits, going 2-4 with two singles.
Jackson Humphries had yet another awesome start. He threw four innings, striking out three, walking two, giving up zero runs on just two hits. His ERA is down to 4.63, but that number is heavily inflated due to his very first start of the season where he failed to record an out. He’s been sensational since that first start, and is someone we should be very excited about.
Box Score · Guardians fall to 2-2
The Guardians ACL team is arguably the team I’m most excited to watch this season. SO many interesting prospects that are making their stateside debut that performed very well in the Dominican Summer League last season. It is a big adjustment, so we shouldn’t be surprised that most of these 17-18 year old kids are off to slow starts.
Welbyn Francisca went 2-4 today with two singles, which is really good to see, hopefully that gets him going. Yaikel Mijares also had a hit, going 1-4 with three strikeouts. Luis Merejo and Jose Pirela are also two prospects to monitor and be excited about. I’m excited to see these talented kids make the necessary adjustments.
Jacob Bresnahan had a phenomenal start, pitching four innings, giving up just one run on two hits, striking out six without walking a single batter, something you don’t see very often in the complex leagues.
