Five squads travelled across to Livingston on Sunday 26 April 2024 to play in their annual Minis’ Tournament. Read below about the Wee Reds P3 Micros and P4 and P5 Minis.
You can catch up on the Wee Reds P7 tournament win in a separate article.
P3 Micros
P3 Micros travelled to Livingston for their second away fixture and their second tournament. Nearly the full squad was able to make it and despite several pairs of bleary eyes after a beavers’ sleepover the night before and the drizzle , the team were full of beans.
We had so many , we split into 3 teams to play Livi, Forrester, Waysiders before putting the full squad on against Dalziel- “carnage” doesn’t do it justice! The team on the other hand did themselves proud. There were lots of proper 2-hand touch around the waist, great passing & catching and of course loads of tries. In keeping with micros rugby , no one kept score but the team firmly believe they were the winners and rightly so. Well done boys !
P4 Minis
Another very strong turnout for Linlithgow P4s and as a result they had enough for 2 squads. The Livingston fixture is always a serious one with so many playing coming up against school friends or family members.
Both teams continued on their exceptional winning streak and one team under Graham claimed tournament winners but as pointed out by the Ian, leading the other squad, the winning team didn’t play his team so we are calling it – joint win for the 2 Linlithgow p4 teams. What a result !
P5 Minis
Primary 5 are going to need a bigger trophy cabinet after the festival at Livi (although admittedly that is just for prizes from the tombola).
A packed fixture list kicked off with a comfortable win against Forrester before a close game against Dalziel also went the way of the Wee Reds. Next up were Kilmarnock who showed no ill effects from the long journey from the West. Purists would say that the Ayrshire team won the match – but this was the game when Linlithgow came of age as a tackling force.
The sausage rolls and penguin biscuits were flowing in the breaks between games and all that extra energy was put to great effect in another cracking game against Waysiders.
Sadly, time wouldn’t play ball and an already congested fixture list became impossible as the sun neared and then past its zenith with 3 games still to play in minus 20 minutes. We managed to squeeze in one last, jumpers for goalposts, match against Biggar on a makeshift pitch. Another great performance ended in an honourable draw with the defensive platform doing its job.
All in all a great day and some of the best rugby P5 have played all year!
