Ange Postecoglou says he wants to move to Sweden for one very funny reason
After learning that the Swedish league has rejected VAR, Ange Postecoglou told the press today that he intends to move there next season. But don’t worry, he’s not swapping jobs or anything, he just wants to live in a world where football isn’t tampered with.
Time and time again this season, Ange Postecoglou has made his feelings regarding VAR technology very clear.
Interestingly, his Tottenham side have benefited from the technology as well as being hindered by it this year, but Postecoglou is very much of the opinion that the game should be allowed to flow normally, and that human mistakes are a part of football.
VAR intervened again at the weekend to rule out Micky van de Ven‘s first-half equaliser against Arsenal for an offside, a decision that is contentious to say the least and arguably cost Spurs the game.
Postecoglou doesn’t think football needs VAR
When asked in his latest press conference today about Sweden’s decision to refuse VAR being implemented into their league, Postecoglou joked he would love to move there.
He said (via Beanyman Sports): “I’m moving there next year. I don’t have a job, but I’m just moving there.”
When asked if it is too late for the Premier League to abandon VAR and what he would do to improve the system, Postecoglou replied: “No, it’s here to stay. Absolutely, it’s not going away. I would change a hell of a lot on it, but again I’ve said before that it’s changed the game, materially.
“I don’t think that was the intention when it was brought in. I watched the game in the Champions League last night [Bayern vs Real Madrid], and if you hadn’t told me VAR was part of that game, I wouldn’t have known. I’m sure there were decisions to make but it felt seamless.”

I am sick and tired of VAR, to be honest. Even when they get it right, it just kills the flow of the game and makes celebrations pointless. But the big problem is, they get it wrong more than they get it right still, so we may as well go back to dealing with human error anyway.
