Mom escapes charges after four of her babies found dead in freezer

A mother whose four newborns were found dead in a freezer has escaped any criminal prosecution.

The bodies of two girls and two boys were discovered in shoe boxes wrapped in tinfoil in a South Boston apartment freezer in November 2022.

After more than two years, investigators were not able to determine if the babies were born alive. Their father is deceased and their now 69-year-old mom has cognitive issues that would probably render her unable to stand trial.

As a result, a Massachusetts prosecutor has announced he will not seek charges against anyone.

‘This investigation, which is one of the most complex, unusual and perplexing that this office has ever encountered, is now complete,’ stated Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden on Tuesday.

‘While we have some answers, there are many elements of this case that will likely never be answered,’ Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said in a statement released Tuesday.

The mother, Alexis Aldamir, who resides at a healthcare facility, seemed confused and did not appear to know where or who she was with as investigators tried to question her.

‘To further assess Aldamir’s cognitive ability, investigators reviewed publicly available probate court records and spoke with a lawyer for Aldemir. The information obtained suggests strongly that Aldamir would be unlikely to stand trial,’ Hayden stated.

‘A prosecutor’s office cannot ethically move forward with a case that, in good faith, it believes it cannot bring to trial.’

The babies were found deceased by their mother’s family members who were cleaning her apartment. Findings from the investigation include that the four were siblings and between 37 and 40 weeks old. They still had their umbilical cords attached and did not show signs of injuries.

However, investigators could not figure out where the babies were born, how they died, and how the mom concealed her pregnancies.

The mother did have another child with the man who died in 2011 that was put up for adoption.
