Data analysis platform Squawka have rated Cristian Romero as the second-best centre-back across the Premier League this season, revealing that the Tottenham man has had one of the highest dual success rates across the division.
While a lot of the limelight has been grabbed by Romero’s centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, who has had an exceptional debut season in the Premier League, the Argentine is quite having a brilliant campaign himself.
There were quite a few question marks about the 26-year-old at the end of last season as his form had tailed off considerably after the World Cup and he was guilty of making several unforced errors in the final few months of the campaign.
However, Romero has silenced his critics this season, having emerged as the leader of a young Tottenham backline. The centre-back has certainly grown in stature since being appointed as the vice-captain by Ange Postecoglou.
What has been obvious with the eye test has now been backed up by the numbers, with the Spurs star registering a Squawka score of 67 per cent, which places him as the second-best centre-back in the Premier League behind Virgil van Dijk.
The Tottenham man also has a dual success rate of 68.1 per cent, which places him third in the Premier League behind the Liverpool star and Brentford’s Ethan Pinnock.
Spurs Web Opinion
Romero has shown over the course of the season just why he is one of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment. The Argentine also appears to have matured and cut out the moments of petulance that he was previously prone to, which is great news for Spurs.
