BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent forced to apologise as guest swears in middle of live interview – leaving fans stunned

SALLY Nugent was forced to apologise after a guest brazenly swore live on BBC Breakfast.

The 52-year-old was left grovelling to viewers as Jon Kay sat silently beside her on the iconic red sofa.

Both hosts were on presenting duties when they discussed Raymond Briggs, the creator of iconic children’s book such as The Snowman.

Following his death two years ago, an exhibition showcasing his creations is due to open in East Sussex.

Jon, 54, and Sally were then joined by Nicolette Jones and cartoonist Steve Bell who are involved in the display and knew Raymond.

However, the interview went downhill when Steve dropped a swear word live on air.

Speaking about working with Raymond, Steve said: “He respected the fact that I was good with deadlines.

“I was very good at churning it out and he only had one deadline a year and I had seven, eight a week.

“And so we kind of had this mutual regard which was great, it was mainly taking the p*** out of each other but he was such great fun, I mean his art history is so much to be proud of, but it’s all on show in this show here.”

As the interview wrapped up, Sally thanked both Nicolette and Steve before addressing the swearing.

She said: “Apologies if anyone was offended by the choice of language in that interview just a moment ago.”

But BBC Breakfast fans were left less than impressed by the scenes and took to social media to comment.

One said: “Plenty of swearing this morning.”

A second wrote: “This interview has gone on long enough now.”

“Having to explain what ‘Taking the p***’ means to my two kids as we are watching a segment on Raymond Briggs. Thanks for the swearing, you complete imbecile,” said a third.

While a fourth posted: “I just heard a man swear on BBC Breakfast while talking about books.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
