SGBV: LAGOS DSVA TAKES ADVOCACY TO MORE COMMUNITIES
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on Tuesday took its advocacy drive on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to residents and members of the Community Development Council (CDCs) and the Community Development Association (CDAs) in Ifako-Ijaye, Itire-Ikate, Coker-Aguda and Surulere LG/LCDAs.
The Executive Secretary of DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, who spoke through Mr. Damilare Adewusi, Head of Community Engagement at the events, described the exercise as a concerted effort to cultivate safer and more knowledgeable communities on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
Noting that there will be no retreat or surrender until the issue of sexual and gender-based violence is a thing of the past in the State, Vivour-Adeniyi explained issues surrounding SGBV, legal frameworks, and proper reporting procedures to residents at the gathering.
Mr. Samuel Olu Opajobi, one of the CDC Chairmen at Ifako-Ijaiye LCDA, urged all the participants to report incidents of SGBV and utilise the free and available support services that the State government is providing through the Agency.
He emphasised the importance of community members being well-informed to combat the prevalence of SGBV in the State.
The Active participation from the audience prompted more prolific discussions and clarification of concerns.
Furthermore, in collaboration with His Royal Highness, Oba Abdul-Lateef Adams, Abiodun I (Onikate of Ikate), the Agency extended its community Engagement to Itire-Ikate, Coker-Aguda, and Surulere to raise awareness among community members.
Prince Moruf Aribidesi, representing the Oba, expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for bringing awareness to their community and encouraged community members to speak out against violence.
Also present were CDC Chairman of Itire Ikate LCDA, Engr. Fatai Adeshina Adelani, and Vice-Chairman of Coker Aguda, Hon. Ogunmola Anthony.
