KKR vs LSG, IPL 2024: Why Lucknow Super Giants Will Wear Green And Maroon Kit Against Kolkata Knight Riders?

Kolkata: Lucknow Super Giants will be donning their secondary kit – green and maroon – against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in an attempt to pocket their fourth win in the ongoing IPL 2024. The green and maroon jersey is LSG’s tribute to their sister football club Mohun Bagan Super Giant who are currently competing in the Indian Super League. In the last season too, LSG wore the green and maroon jersey when they played KKR in an away fixture.

The green and maroon jersey by LSG was introduced in 2023 as a tribute to the Kolkata football giants, also owned by the same owner, RP Sanjeev Goenka Group. RPSG bought the Lucknow franchise in 2022. A year later, they also bought a majority stake in Mohun Bagan. Following the Mariner’s ISL triumph in 2023, Goenka announced that the club will be called as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from June 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the match will be KKR’s first of the five matches at home on the trot and the Gautam Gambhir-mentored side will be fully aware this can prove decisive to clinch the play-off spot for the first time since 2021. In the points tally, nothing separates the two teams, both of whom have secured three wins each, and lost their respective last-round matches.

While KKR will be overwhelming favourites at Eden Gardens, LSG with their unassuming approach will not give up easily, even as they will miss their pace sensation Mayank Yadav for a second successive match. The team owned by Kolkata-based industrialist Sanjeev Goenka will hope for a much better show after mustering an average 167/7 against DC on Friday.

As far as MBSG is concerned, the Antonio Lopez Habas-coached side will be up against table-toppers Mumbai City FC on April 15. Both have played 21 matches each with Mumbai City FC ahead of their opponents by two points. The winner of the game will be crowd Shield champions before the knockout matches take place.
