‘What a game’ – Chris Sutton predicts a five-goal thriller for Newcastle vs Spurs

Chris Sutton admitted that he expects plenty of goals when Tottenham travel to St James’ Park and he backed the away side to edge out Newcastle.

Given the results in Europe this week, both Tottenham and Aston Villa will be aware that a fifth-place finish is increasingly unlikely to guarantee them passage into the Champions League.

The race for fourth could heat up as a result, even though Ange Postecoglou insisted last week that he is more bothered about seeing his side show signs of progress than he is about finishing fourth (Football.London).

Tottenham play before Aston Villa this weekend, with the Lilywhites having the chance to build up a three-point lead (with a game in hand) over the Villans before they travel to the Emirates on Sunday.

Newcastle vs Tottenham score prediction

Spurs fans will want to forget what happened during the side’s trip to St James Park last season but Sutton believes that Postecoglou’s men have enough about them to emerge with all three points.

The pundit told BBC Sport: “What a game this will be. I was at Newcastle’s 4-3 win over West Ham at the end of March and I am expecting a few goals this time too.

“I didn’t see Newcastle’s win at Fulham last week coming, but it was a great result and it means they are looking up the table now, with their sights set on sixth place.

“Tottenham’s target is to finish fourth and they won’t settle for a point here. It is going to be very close but I have got a feeling they will edge it. Prediction: 2-3.”

A lot of our away performances this season have left a lot to be desired and Newcastle is a hard place to go. It is hard to predict this game with any certainty but there is no doubt that both sides will get plenty of chances to score.
