Match Preview: Farnborough vs Chippenham Town

Farnborough return to the Saunders Transport Community Stadium this Thursday as they take on Chippenham Town in a re-arranged fixture.

Hosts Boro now sit three points off the Play-Off places after a home defeat against Maidstone United brought an end to a seven-game winning streak.

Raphe Brown’s 78th minute header gave the visitors all three points and put a bit of a dent in The Yellows’ Play-Off push. With three games remaining, Farnborough sit on 66 points; three points off seventh placed Hampton & Richmond Borough who also have three games left.

Thursday’s visitors Chippenham Town have also been in fantastic form recently. However, The Bluebirds lost their first game in their last seven on Tuesday evening.

Gary Horgan’s men travelled to Weston-super-Mare and took the lead after 20 minutes through Tom Owen-Evans. The Somerset side were able to level up in first half stoppage time through Robbie Willmott. The game remained level until the 90th minute, when Weston-super-Mare were awarded a penalty which was slammed home by Reuben Reid to give the home side all three points.

Ahead of Chippenham Town’s originally scheduled visit, Yellows boss Spencer Day was wary of the threat that opposition possess: “They’re passing the ball around for fun. They’ve had the advantage of not playing tonight.”

“It’s a free hit for them, and it’s such another difficult game, but what a group we’ve got here at the moment.”

The previous match between the two sides ended in defeat for Farnborough. Dan Ellison put Chippenham Town ahead just 12 minutes in, with Caine Bradbury doubling The Bluebirds lead three minutes after half-time. Michael Folivi pulled one back for Boro with half an hour to go, but it wasn’t enough as Edon Pruti saw red five minutes later and the Wiltshire outfit were able to hold on.

The Yellows will need to be wary of Chippenham Town’s excellent away form this season. The Bluebirds have picked up more points on the road this season than they have at home with eight wins, eight draws and just five defeats on their travels.
