Trump camp dismayed as RFK Jr. starts aggressively courting MAGA voters: report

Donald Trump's campaign is hoping that conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. acts as a spoiler for President Joe Biden.

However, Axios is reporting that Kennedy may have some ideas of his own.

Kennedy has cut a new ad in which he talks about getting tough on the border, while separately pledging to launch an investigation into Capitol riot prosecutions in what appears to be a blatant appeal to voters who would otherwise support former President Donald Trump.

"Kennedy's long-shot independent campaign so far appears to be hurting President Biden more than Trump in polls, but Kennedy's latest moves could flip that equation," writes Axios. "Kennedy is now drawing fire from Trump and other conservatives who once hailed Kennedy's campaign."

While the Kennedy name is still strongly associated with Democrats, Axios notes that RFK Jr. has shown some crossover appeal given his promotion of bogus conspiracy theories about vaccines.

"He gained a following on the right during the pandemic with his vaccine skepticism and his book, 'The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health,'" notes Axios.

However, Kennedy's false conspiracy theories don't fit neatly into a left-right axis, as he also falsely believes that the 2004 election was stolen from John Kerry by then-President George W. Bush.

Trump's right-wing media allies have been highlighting Kennedy's more left-wing stances recently in an attempt to keep their viewers from potentially being lured into his orbit.

"Last week, Fox News host Sean Hannity said on his show that some Republicans may think Kennedy is a conservative, but that he's actually a 'devout, radical environmentalist,'" Axios adds.

Trump also got into the act last month when he labeled Kennedy as "the most Radical Left Candidate in the race, by far."
