CaughtOffside report that Inter Milan have now moved to the front of the queue ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Albert Gudmundsson and are now ‘closing in’ on a deal for the Genoa star.
Gudmundsson, who is having an outstanding season at Luigi Ferraris Stadium, is being backed to move to a bigger club this summer and various reports over the past couple of weeks have suggested that Spurs are leading the race for the attacking midfielder (Primo Canale).
In fact, over recent days, various Italian outlets have reported that Inter are fearful Tottenham would blow them out of the water financially in the race for the 26-year-old (Inter Live).
However, CaughtOffside have now claimed that the Nerazzurri have ‘taken important steps’ towards signing Gudmundsson, having reached out to both the player and Genoa.
In fact, it is alleged that Inter are not far away from finalising an agreement in principle with the Iceland international, with further contacts expected in the coming weeks to hammer out the details of the potential deal.
The publication suggests that the likes of Tottenham have not yet lost hope of Gudmundsson but Simone Inzaghi’s have an advantage. This is because the Rossoblu are interested in Mattia Zanotti, who could be offered by Inter as a sweetener in a deal for the midfielder.

Having lost out to Tottenham in the race for Guglielmo Vicario early last summer, it sounds like Inter are keen to ensure the same does not happen with Gudmundsson, which is why they are seemingly laying the groundwork for the deal well before the window opens.
