A 1-1 draw with Dundee Reserves today at Lochinch was enough for Queen’s Park’s B to become the cinch SPFL Reserve League Champions for season 2023/ 24.
Charlie Fox continued his recovery from injury by playing the 90 minutes and scoring the Queen’s Park goal in the second half with the title secured despite the Tayside second string replying.
With a win needed to be crowned as league winners at kick-off Queen’s Park B made a lightning start and Lucas McCormick had the ball in the Dundee net after 90 seconds however an offside flag stifled celebrations.
The Dark Blues had their first chance three minutes later however Ryan Mohammed headed wide after a cross from the right.
With ten minutes played Lewis Reid had a net-bound shot charged down and when Ricky Waugh took charge of the loose ball, Max Fiddes was only inches away from turning the skipper’s cross home.
Shortly afterwards Joseph Smith cut in from the right and left two defenders behind before curling a left-footed shot just over the bar.
On 15 minutes a terrific pass from Kane Thomson released Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia and after the visiting defence got back to crowd the attacker out Alex Fairlie fired inches wide.
Queen’s created another chance midway through the opening half when McCormick hit the by-line and cut the ball back to Fiddes with Dundee goalkeeper Tom Welsh forced to stick out a leg to save.
With 26 minutes played, Sam Kane made a smart stop as he pushed away a header from Sebastian Lochhead after an off the ball tackle on Hickey-Fugaccia had gone unpunished.
Queen’s Park B looked to make the most of Kane’s save and Thomson quickly took control at the other end as he dashed towards the Dundee goal before sending a shot flashing just past the post.
There was one more opening before the break when McCormick ran clear on the left and picked out Fairlie who saw his low drive deflected wide.

Fox overlapped on the left six minutes into the second half before crossing for Fiddes who hooked a shot over the bar.
Dundee had an attempt to open the scoring on 54 minutes when Finlay Allan let fly from the right with his shot flashing past the far post.
On 58 minutes Fox rose to meet a corner with a touch of a Dundee headed resulting in another flag-kick that was taken by Fairlie, and this time FOX rose majestically and headed home from six yards despite the best efforts of Marley Sweenie-Rowe to keep the ball out.
Euan Mutale sent a free-kick high over Kanes’ bar before Reid played a one-two with Thomson before picking out Hickey-Fugaccia with a whipped cross that the striker could not force in from close range.
Hickey-Fugaccia clattered into the woodwork as he tried to score and was replaced shortly afterwards.
Dundee levelled on 71 minutes when Mutale ignored strong appeals for offside and found the net from a tight angle via the inside of a post.
Queen’s Park B looked to hit back and secure the win they needed to be certain of being in top spot and they were unlucky when a penalty box challenge on Thomson went unpunished.
They were unlucky again with three minutes left as Fiddes broke on the half-way line only to be pulled back by Craig Donald who picked up a yellow card for his troubles.
Another opening came in injury time when substitute Tyrece McDonnell was fed by Fox and his low 20 yarder was beaten away by a diving Welsh.
There was one further chance to secure the three points after Darryl Carrick had been flattened 25 yards out with McDonnell inches out with the resultant free-kick.
Seven minutes of injury time were played and towards the end of that period news had come through that Hibs Reserves had been defeated by Kilmarnock’s reserves and that Queen’s Park B were Champions!
