'Goal is violence': Ex-GOP lawmaker reacts to 'not so veiled' Trump threat after gag order

Former President Donald Trump is actively trying to spur his supporters to violence once again with his attacks on Judge Juan Merchan's and his family, former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) warned on CNN Tuesday.

Merchan, whose daughter has been on the receiving end of attacks from the former president for several days, expanded a gag order against him Monday in the New York hush money case to include the families of people involved in the trial.

Trump reacted to it with another rage-filled social media post slamming the "corrupt" judge.

"In this latest post from Trump, he's not going after the judge's daughter overtly, though he did refer to 'conflicts' taking place in the courtroom, and that's a pretty veiled, not-so-veiled reference to the judge's daughter," said anchor Jim Acosta.

The significance here, he added, is that, "Trump is playing a game here, isn't he? He dances up to the line, sometimes crosses it, wants to see what the judge does and reaction to it, and then if you can get a gag order or something like that, it sounds like that is what he wants to do, is sort of create a delay mechanism, keep getting into these situations where a gag order comes in, he dances up to the line, may violate it, and that sets up another distraction that may delay the case further."

Walsh, a longtime critic of the former president, agreed. "You're right, Jim, and he's never, ever held accountable. So he will keep dancing up to that line and crossing that line because no one holds them accountable. My God, we're three and a half years removed from January 6, and he still hasn't been put on trial and he's the guy who incited January 6!"

"His goal here, besides delay, is violence," Walsh continued. "Everything he does is to incite violence. That image from a few days ago of the President of the United States, Joe Biden being kidnapped, and he posts that. This is all part of the same game plan. He wants to incite violence."
