A man suffered serious injuries during what police believe was an isolated assault involving a blade in Torrington on Sunday.
Officers were alerted to the attack at 7:08 p.m. when they were dispatched to the area of the Burmor apartments at 236 Main St. on the report of a man who was bleeding, according to Lt. Ken Brouillard of the Torrington Police Department.
Officers located the victim and discovered that he had suffered serious lacerations to his lower back and arms indicative of “an assault with a bladed weapon or object,” Brouillard said in a statement Monday.
According to Brouillard, the victim was uncooperative with police before being taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. His injuries have been described as serious but not life-threatening.
Officers and detectives who canvassed the area later learned that the attack had occurred in the area of Franklin Street and Franklin Drive sometime around 6:30 p.m.
“At this time, based on the facts and circumstances known to investigators, this incident is being considered an isolated targeted attack on the victim, though the public should remain vigilant as always,” Brouillard said.
Detectives are investigating the assault.
