Sorority rejection leaves a lasting impression
While I support the positives Ms. Carmel wrote about sororities, I must show the other side (“University of Maryland unfairly casts a shadow on sororities,” March 20).
My sorority experience while at the University of Maryland was the highlight of my college experience. I made treasured relationships that have lasted more than 70 years. I saw how the acceptance helped those who were shy and retiring. However, those who were not so lucky as to be asked to join the sorority were excluded for silly judgmental reasons. I must add that these rejections have had a lasting effect on me and others. Although I look back fondly on this wonderful experience, the good is outweighed by the hurt it brought to young women in their tender impressionable years.
