Charles to attend ‘reduced’ Easter celebrations amid ongoing cancer treatment
The King hopes to mark Easter with his family next weekend, although it’s expected other attendees will be limited in number.
Charles and Camilla are currently scheduled to attend the traditional Easter Matins next Sunday at the St George’s Chapel in Windsor, provided his health will allow it.
Doctors have reportedly advised the King to avoid large crowds while he undergoes treatment for cancer, accounting for him stepping back from public duties since his diagnosis earlier this year.
As a result, the royal turnout at Windsor to mark Easter Sunday will also be reduced compared to previous years, with some commentators dubbing the event ‘Easter Lite.’
A palace source, quoted by the Daily Telegraph, said: ‘The King and Queen are hoping to attend some form of Easter Service in Windsor.
‘However, it will not be the large family gathering that we might expect to see in different circumstances.’
The source also reportedly confirmed that the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as the three children, will not be in attendance.
It follows after Kate Middleton revealed on Friday she is similarly undergoing treatment for cancer, putting an end to weeks of speculation over her temporary disappearance from public life.
The Princess has explained how she underwent abdominal surgery at the London Clinic on January 16, incidentally as Charles was also receiving treatment at the same facility, for what was originally believed to be a non-cancerous condition.
However, biopsy results from the operation have since shown that cancer was indeed present, prompting a course of preventative chemotherapy for the 42-year-old royal.
In her video address, she said: ‘It’s been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.
‘This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time.’
