‘Mesh, sheer, see through bodices are not appropriate for weddings’ people slate guest for her daring gown
THERE’S one rule that everyone should know when it comes to attending someone else’s wedding – never upstage the bride.
But one woman who appeared to struggle to understand this concept has told how she was planning on wearing a very revealing black gown to some upcoming nuptials.
However, it hasn’t gone down well online, with some accusing the dress of looking like “underwear.”
In a clip shared to Reddit, the wedding guest in question posted two potential dress options, before asking forum users: “Is lace/beading appropriate for a black tie (optional but strongly preferred) wedding?”
The first dress she’s considering wearing is a stunning black gown complete with sheer bodice and thigh high split up one leg.
She went on to confirm how the bride “requested that everyone wear black” and added: “I wasn’t sure about the lace/beading!
“I’m not friends with the bride and last thing I’d want is to wear something that could seem inappropriate.”
And according to others, the second dress wasn’t much better, with the £150 ‘Confident Sensation Black Sequin Strapless Bustier Maxi Dress’ from Lulus also featuring a super high thigh split.
The online product description reads: “Sparkling black sequins, accented by silver lurex threading, create a floral-inspired design across mesh knit as it falls from a strapless, sweetheart neckline (with hidden no-slip strips).
“The bustier-style bodice boasts lightly padded cups, underwire support, and hidden side boning.
“High, fitted waist sits atop a figure-flattering, mermaid maxi skirt with a sultry thigh-high side slit.”
It wasn’t long before the post garnered quite the response, with very mixed opinions.
“2 is definitely more appropriate. Mesh, sheer, see through bodices are not appropriate for weddings,” wrote one.
A second penned: “I don’t understand the draw of that style. It straight up looks like underwear.”
A third commented: “Both are beautiful but dress 2 is a ‘safer bet’ due to the semi sheer bodice and visible boning/bra cups of dress,” wrote one.
“1. However, if the wedding isn’t at a church and you know the crowd isn’t very conservative, I say go for whichever you like best!”
Meanwhile, a fourth added: “People saying the bodice is not appropriate, but loving the high slit on #2 (which is okay as well) has me cracking up.”
Elsewhere, others defended the wedding guest’s choice due to the theme of the day itself.
“I think they are both perfect! Black tie allows a bit of leeway with the ‘look at me’ (the bling/sexy) aspect of gowns, so a tiny bit of sheer lace or sequins is totally fine,” wrote one.
A second penned: “They are both appropriate but I do have to wonder about the fabric in person.
“Both of these really are banking the on the fabric being beautiful.”
Another chimed in: “The second may have too wide a leg slit although it might just be the pose. But that’s just picking hairs, I’m sure it’s overall fine.”
