Team South run riot in BBL All-Star Game victory
Team South produced a dominant display to ease past Team North in a 149-116 victory at the 2024 BBL All-Star Game at the Copper Box Arena in London, on Sunday.
Teddy ‘Buckets’ Allen claimed the MVP award with 31 points, six rebounds and five assists with Tevin Olison adding a further 27 points, eight boards and four assists in the win.
The high-scoring showdown saw the players look to put on a show for the crowd with an array of alley-oop dunks and long-range three-point attempts, but defence was certainly not the order of the day as the teams combined for 265 points.
The game was tied at 13-13 at the first media timeout, but South moved ahead with back-to-back dunks from Olison and Padiet Wang giving their side a seven-point advantage.
Allen scored 11 points in the early stages of the second as the gap reached double-figures. Jamell Anderson responded with seven straight points for the North and they would go into half-time trailing 63-56 as Aaryn Rai hit a three to close the gap.
Two more followed when play resumed from the Cheshire Phoenix star to make it a six-point game, but that was as close as it got from that point on with South going on an 11-2 run to begin to pull away.
The gap had hit 15 points at the end of the third, and had it been closer, the fourth may have transpired into a more competitive showdown. As it was, South continued to pull clear and racked up a further 45 points in the final 10 minutes.
3-Point Shootout winner Matt Morgan hit three triples in the fourth, while Allen took his tally beyond the 30-point mark – as well as the overall lead – en route to MVP honours.
LaQuincy Rideau led the North with 22 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in defeat.
