Brits told to pack ‘bulletproof vests’ if visiting this Costa del Sol resort
British tourists planning a visit a popular Costa del Sol resort have been warned they should pack bulletproof vests alongside their sandals.
Angry locals have called for politicians and police to control the situation over fears gangs are turning the resort of Puerto Banus into a ‘Wild West’ which will scare away holidaymakers.
They vented their fury yesterday following the second shooting in the affluent destination in Marbella.
Footage of the latest incident, which left a man seriously injured with gunshot wounds, showed bystanders running away as others screamed, before loud shots ran out and a black car reversed from the scene.
A 20-year-old man was hurt in the shooting outside of the shisha bar around 1:30am Saturday.
It follows another shooting at British-owned eatery La Sala earlier this week, which saw several bullets fired into the window of the popular eatery.
Spanish news website El Espanol described the La Sala incident earlier this week as a ‘very severe warning’.
They said: ‘In Marbella these mafia-style warnings tend to go more unnoticed because they tend to be carried out with more discretion.
‘At the end of December last year two restaurants were set on fire. But that occurred during the night and with no witnesses.’
Sales worker Lina Nouri said: ‘Two shootings in less than 10 days. What reputation has Puerto Banus got now?’
Antonio Mayor said: ‘Is this what’s it like? In the summer let’s put our swim shorts and sandals on as well as a bullet-proof vest.’
Local businesses have reportedly been suffering after the spate of shootings, with one local referring to a previous shooting last July and adding: ‘After that incident visitors disappeared.’
