EJ Walker, a four-star junior out of Lloyd Memorial HS (KY.), is looking to commit before fall and play his senior season “stress free,” his dad and high school coach Mike Walker told ZAGSBLOG.
EJ took a day trip to Purdue on Wednesday. He was initially scheduled to see the Boilermakers take down Wisconsin on Sunday, but Lloyd Memorial’s postseason schedule kept him at home. He has been on campus four times already.
“They [Purdue] want him pretty bad,” Mike said. “They’re gonna set up an official visit, hopefully after they win the whole thing.”
Purdue and Terry Johnson’s message Wednesday was envisioning Walker’s role with the team and how his playstyle will fit.
Aside from the Boilermakers, he has been in contact with South Carolina, Wisconsin, Minnesota and California about future visits.
Walker’s recent top-12 included Louisville, Ohio State and West Virginia, all of whom are undergoing coaching changes. He will “wait and see” where things go with each program, but they remain in contention.
Iowa and Illinois remain in the mix as well.
In terms of what Walker can bring to the table, Mike stressed EJ’s versatility above all.
“You’re getting a kid who’s very versatile. He can play multiple positions, he can guard multiple positions and he can score at all three levels,” Mike said. “His IQ is really high. His best ability is being able to pass and make his teammates better. I call him a Swiss Army Knife because there’s so much he can do and that’s what college coaches love about him.”
