‘It will sit in shop,’ dealer admits about popular luxury brand as he reveals the top cars most likely to break down
A CAR salesman has come clean about dozens of car brands and claimed to know their real dependability ratings.
In a TikTok, the car salesman advised shoppers which luxury vehicle brands he would avoid.
“We are going to go over various things wrong with different types of vehicles,” the TikTok car salesman, Cleve (@clevejdm), said in a post in 2021.
Cleve, a then-GMC salesman, walked through a car dealership and revealed his thoughts about several popular makes and models.
First, he called Land Rover’s Range Rover a “luxury icon.”
But he wasn’t sold on the car’s dependability.
“This car will sit in the shop getting engine work done more than it will [be] in your two hands on the steering wheel,” Cleve said.
“That is a promise.”
Land Rover didn’t immediately respond to The U.S. Sun when reached for comment.
The brand’s Range Rover model has gone through a series of changes since the TikTok.
The over-$100,000 Range Rover updated its exterior styling and motor for the 2022 model year.
However, the previous model had a history of dependability issues.
Clive took aim at several other popular car brands.
“They say if you want to keep a mechanic shop open, buy a Ford truck,” he asserted.
He was filming Ford’s ultra-large Super Duty series of trucks.
He claimed GMC trucks typically have problems with cylinder heads and other engine components.
“This is the most reliable quarter-ton truck on the market,” Clive claimed while filming Toyota’s Tacoma mid-size pickup.
But he said drivers will “overpay for groundbreaking features that came out 15 years ago.”
He also said Toyota’s full-size Tundra trucks were similarly outdated.
He then moved onto Chevy, saying its sedans are “very solid vehicles.”
However, he said drivers would notice quality issues if they kept the cars for long.
“Once you start crossing the 100,000-mile mark, you’ll just start seeing random things fall apart,” he said.
